Technology, Creativity & Transferable Skills: Partnerships with Academia

On March 28th, students from the Social Media Marketing module offered by the division of Communication Media and Culture (Faculty of Arts and Humanities) met industry partners from Stirling and Glasgow in occasion of the second edition of the “Technology, Creativity and Transferable Skills: Partnerships with Academia” networking event.

The event took place at the new hub of Creative Stirling and was attended by over 100 guests between students and representatives from small and medium size companies. During the event, undergraduate students from the Social Media Marketing module presented their pitches to Stirling Credit Union, Developing Nation, The Lieutenancy for Falkirk and Stirling and author Cynthia Holden. These four local companies and non-profit organisations had commissioned students to produce fresh marketing outputs and insights to help them in their marketing efforts. As a result, students had the opportunity to work on live briefs and apply what they had learned to real-world marketing scenarios.

After the event, there was a business brunch where students further had the opportunity to network with local companies, and during which time many new ideas and potential collaborations were discussed.

Student Presentations

The event was first launched in 2018 to celebrate students’ work and connect academia with the local businesses and companies. In its second edition, the “Technology, Creativity and Transferable Skills” continues to aim at offering students a unique opportunity to gain some work experience while at university, and to create and explore new partnerships with businesses. This further reinforces the Communication Media and Culture division’s commitment towards working with local companies through a series of research and student projects in an effort to establish strong and lasting partnerships.

Client Evaluation & Feedback

The keynote speaker at the event was Mr Jonathan Smith, a motion graphic designer based in London, who spoke about the challenges of transferrable skills in an ever-changing market. His lecture was aimed at giving students advice and talk about the invaluable role that creativity plays in adapting to the job market.

The Communication Media and Culture division would like to thank all the staff, the clients, Mrs Elaine Watson, Jonathan Ms Joe Hall from Creative Strlng and all the participants that contributed to  the success of this edition of the “Technology, Creativity and Transferable Skills”. A special thank you to students Runli Wang, Abigail Ferguson and Rowan Harper for their help with the event.

We would also like to thank the Stirling Fund at the University of Stirling for their support of this event.
